  1. 21. Role of IL-7 in immune activation during HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Stefano Sammicheli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Viral replication, lymphopenia and microbial translocation at the mucosal surfaces lead to a chronic state of immune activation during HIV-1 infection. Chronic immune activation is believed to impact on the functionality of cell types that are not the main target for virus replication, including CD8+T cells, B cells and NK cells. LÄS MER

  2. 22. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins

    Författare :Karol Axcrona; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear transport; bacterial Ig-binding proteins; CD40L promoter; CD21; Ig; B lymphocyte activation in vitro; CD40; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Proinflammatory and antigen-specific CD4+ T cells in rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Jennifer Pieper; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease primarily affecting peripheral joints. In this thesis work we aimed to increase the knowledge about proinflammatory and antigen-specific CD4+ T cell subsets involved in RA pathogenesis and I also investigated the effect of T cell directed therapy (abatacept) on CD4+ T cell subsets. 4. 24. Targets for immune mediated killing of tumor cells and T cell functions in B-CLL

    Författare :Eva D Rossmann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; apoptosis; monoclonal antibody therapy; quantitative flow cytometry; cytokines; T cell dysfunctions;

    Sammanfattning : There is a great need for developing and improving treatment alternatives in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). New therapeutical approaches based on the manipulation of the immune system enable establishment of enhanced control over the malignant clone. LÄS MER

  5. 25. THE ROLE OF DENDRITIC CELLS AND TYPE I INTERFERON IN THE GENERATION AND FUNCTION OF T FOLLICULAR HELPER CELLS

    Författare :Helena Cucak; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; T follicular helper cells; Type I interferon; Dendritic cells;

    Sammanfattning : Generation of long-lived plasma cells and memory B cells of high affinity takes place in germinal centers and depends on help from a specialized CD4+ T cell subset termed T follicular helper (Tfh) cells. These processes are crucial for long-term protection upon natural infection or in settings of vaccination, however they are also responsible for development of antibody-mediated autoimmune disease.
