21. Role of IL-7 in immune activation during HIV-1 infection
Sammanfattning : Viral replication, lymphopenia and microbial translocation at the mucosal surfaces lead to a chronic state of immune activation during HIV-1 infection. Chronic immune activation is believed to impact on the functionality of cell types that are not the main target for virus replication, including CD8+T cells, B cells and NK cells. LÄS MER
22. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. LÄS MER
23. Proinflammatory and antigen-specific CD4+ T cells in rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease primarily affecting peripheral joints. In this thesis work we aimed to increase the knowledge about proinflammatory and antigen-specific CD4+ T cell subsets involved in RA pathogenesis and I also investigated the effect of T cell directed therapy (abatacept) on CD4+ T cell subsets. 24. Targets for immune mediated killing of tumor cells and T cell functions in B-CLL
Sammanfattning : There is a great need for developing and improving treatment alternatives in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). New therapeutical approaches based on the manipulation of the immune system enable establishment of enhanced control over the malignant clone. LÄS MER
25. THE ROLE OF DENDRITIC CELLS AND TYPE I INTERFERON IN THE GENERATION AND FUNCTION OF T FOLLICULAR HELPER CELLS
Sammanfattning : Generation of long-lived plasma cells and memory B cells of high affinity takes place in germinal centers and depends on help from a specialized CD4+ T cell subset termed T follicular helper (Tfh) cells. These processes are crucial for long-term protection upon natural infection or in settings of vaccination, however they are also responsible for development of antibody-mediated autoimmune disease.
