  1. 21. Ultrasound and atherosclerosis. Evaluation of methods, risk factors and intervention

    Författare :Jerker Persson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; validation; ultrasound; reproducibility; progression; plaque; intima-media thickness; intervention; atherosclerosis; epidemiology; cardiovascular risk factors; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of studying cardiovascular disease before the process leads to hard end-points has been recognised, and methods to quantify early atherosclerosis have been taken in use in many research centres around the world. An ultrasound method with a computer assisted image analysing system was developed in co-operation with the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular Research and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. 2. 22. Effects of growth hormone on cardiovascular risk factors and atherosclerosis

    Författare :Maria Leonsson Zachrisson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :growth hormone; pituitary deficiency; dietary fat; cholesterol; low density; lipoprotein; intima-media thickness; IL-6; CRP; TNF-á;

    Sammanfattning : Hypopituitary patients with growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD) have increasedmorbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD). GH treatment has both beneficialand potentially negative cardiovascular effects. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Longitudinal Common Carotid Artery Wall Motion - mechanistic, prognostic and translational studies

    Författare :Sara Svedlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :carotid artery; longitudinal wall motion; ultrasound; velocity vector imaging; risk factor;

    Sammanfattning : The longitudinal arterial movement of the common carotid artery (CCA) has been less investigated during the past compared to the radial movement. This is probably due to lack of an adequate measuring method. Velocity vector ultrasound imaging (VVI) now enables assessment of the longitudinal movement. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Ultrasound assessment of carotid atherosclerosis focusing on plaque characteristics and changes over time

    Författare :Ulrica Prahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ultrasound; Carotid artery; Women; Plaques; Echogenicity; Atherosclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : In a clinical perspective better methods to identify subjects at increased cardiovascular risk are needed. Atherosclerotic plaques of the carotid arteries with low echogenicity have been related to future clinical events. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Patterns of non-invasive imaging of carotid atherosclerosis

    Författare :Pranvera Ibrahimi; Michael Henein; Per Wester; Pompilio Faggiano; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease that can be generalized, affecting more than one arterial bed simultaneously, or localized, manifested in one system. Ultrasound based measurements of plaque textural features, such as low grey scale median (GSM), echolucent (hypoechoic) plaque types and juxtaluminal black (hypoechoic) area (JBA) are manifestation of potentially unstable lesions.
