1. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Sammanfattning : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 2. Longitudinal Common Carotid Artery Wall Motion - mechanistic, prognostic and translational studies
Sammanfattning : The longitudinal arterial movement of the common carotid artery (CCA) has been less investigated during the past compared to the radial movement. This is probably due to lack of an adequate measuring method. Velocity vector ultrasound imaging (VVI) now enables assessment of the longitudinal movement. LÄS MER
3. Advancements of 2D speckle tracking of arterial wall movements
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. In order to improve the diagnostics and facilitate early interventions of cardiovascular diseases, knowledge about the physiology of the vascular system in both healthy subjects and in subjects with vascular disease is needed. 4. Quantification of cardiovascular flow and motion : aspects of regional myocardial function and flow patterns in the aortic root and the aorta
Sammanfattning : Quantification of cardiovascular flow and motion is essential in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of cardiovascular disease. The accuracy and quantification of many imaging methods used in this field have important shortfalls, however, that result from limitations in spatial and temporal dimensions. LÄS MER
5. On the Use of Ultrasound Phase Data for Arterial Characterization
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is one of the major causes of death in the world. It is an inflammatory disease in the arteries which causes a gradual increase in arterial wall thickness and stiffness. Eventually a plaque could be formed, protruding into the artery and partially occluding the blood flow. LÄS MER
