    Sammanfattning : If humanity is to reduce the rate of climate change, it is essential that our societies switch to a more sustainable production of fuels and chemicals, which in turn depends on technological development. Oleochemical production via microbial catalysts – such as the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae – can use a considerably broader range of renewable substrates compared to the conventional production processes.     Sammanfattning : Oleaginous yeasts are a potential lipid source for production of fuels, chemicals and food or feed and use of lignocellulosic biomass as feedstock is considered a sustainable approach. Pre-treatment of lignocellulose is required to release the major carbon sources, glucose, xylose and other sugars for lipid production by oleaginous yeasts, but also releases inhibitory compounds.
