  1. 1. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Fatty Acid Metabolism : Studies on Members of the Porcine CYP4A and CYP8B Subfamilies

    Författare :Kerstin Lundell; Kjell Wikvall; Ronnie Hansson; Stefan Alexson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; cytochrome P450; bile acids; fatty acids; CYP4A; CYP8B; genome; porcine; hyocholic acid; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The present investigation is devoted to studies on porcine members of the cytochrome P450 4A (CYP4A) and CYP8B1 subfamilies, which are involved in bile acid biosynthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Hyocholic acid is considered to fulfil the requirements for trihydroxy bile acids in the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) in the absence of cholic acid. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gut microbial regulation of bile acid metabolism and signaling

    Författare :Sama I. Sayin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Gut Microbiota; Bile Acids;

    Sammanfattning : The collection of microbes in our gastrointestinal tract, the gut microbiota, is an environmental factor that has profound impact on host health and disease. Bile acids are endogenous cholesterol-derived molecules that can be modified by the gut microbiota and function as signaling molecules in regulation of host metabolic processes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Systems and Synthetic Biology: “Mining human gut microbial metabolism through in vitro and in silico approaches”

    Författare :Promi Das; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gut; bile acids; metatranscriptomics; in vitro co-cultures; metagenomics; co-occurrence network; short chain fatty acids; metabolomics; metabolism; vitamins;

    Sammanfattning : The human gut microbiome is a consequence of mutual co-evolutionary interaction between the eukaryotic and prokaryotic parts of the mammalian holobiont. Based on the environmental and dietary inputs, there is a succession of microorganisms living inside the human colon. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of bile acid and cholesterol metabolism in health and disease

    Författare :Cecilia Gälman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bile acids - cholesterol - gallstone - cholic acid - cholestyramine - high performance liquid chromatography - species - C4 - 7alpha-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3 -one cholesterol 7alpha-hydroxylase - lipoproteins - hyperlipidemia - statins - resins - diurnal variation - ASBT - 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A;

    Sammanfattning : An increased level of plasma cholesterol is associated with premature development of atherosclerosis. It is therefore important to understand the regulation of plasma cholesterol. Stimulation of hepatic bile acid synthesis is a strategy to reduce plasma cholesterol. This partly occurs due to an induction of hepatic LDL receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the regulation of hepatic cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in gallstone patients

    Författare :Carl-Gustaf Hillebrant; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bile acid synthesis; biliary lipids; cholesterol synthesis; cholesterol 7a-hydroxylase; cholesterol synthesis inhibitor; chenodeoxycholic acid; cholestyramine; 7a-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one; HMG CoA reductase; lathosterol; lipoproteins; lithocholic acid; plasma apheresis; ursodeoxycholic acid;

    Sammanfattning : The liver plays an important role in the regulation of cholesterol homeostasis, therefore also in the pathogenesis of arteriosclerosis and gallstone disease. The quantitatively most important way by which cholesterol is removed from the human body is via the bile, either as free cholesterol or after transformation to bile acids. LÄS MER
