  1. 1. On the regulation of hepatic cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in gallstone patients

    Författare :Carl-Gustaf Hillebrant; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bile acid synthesis; biliary lipids; cholesterol synthesis; cholesterol 7a-hydroxylase; cholesterol synthesis inhibitor; chenodeoxycholic acid; cholestyramine; 7a-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one; HMG CoA reductase; lathosterol; lipoproteins; lithocholic acid; plasma apheresis; ursodeoxycholic acid;

    Sammanfattning : The liver plays an important role in the regulation of cholesterol homeostasis, therefore also in the pathogenesis of arteriosclerosis and gallstone disease. The quantitatively most important way by which cholesterol is removed from the human body is via the bile, either as free cholesterol or after transformation to bile acids. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on human sterol 27-hydroxylase with emphasis on its mechanism of regulation and metabolic consequences of a deficient enzyme

    Författare :Magnus Hansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) is a mitochondrial cytochrome P-450 enzyme present in most animal cells. In hepatocytes, CYP27A1 has an important role in connection with biosynthesis of bile acids from cholesterol. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Steroids and bile acids in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy : effects of treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid

    Författare :Ling-Jie Meng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A method permitting simultaneous analysis of individual steroid hormone metabolites and bile acids in different forms of conjugation in serum and urine was established. Total bile acids and neutral steroids were extracted from human serum or urine with octadecylsilane-bonded silica, separated into different groups of conjugates by anion-exchange chromatography and analyzed by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry.
