21. Bound by long-range interactions: Molecular crystals and benzene on Cu(111)
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates molecular systems bound by long-range interactions. Westudy molecular crystals held together by van der Waals forces and the physisorption of benzene (Bz) on Cu(111). LÄS MER
22. Chromosome aberrations and environmental exposures in acute leukemia
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis are to evaluate the role of environmental exposures, especially professional exposure to organic solvents and petroleum products in the etiology of acute leukemia and to investigate if there is a correlation between the exposure to a specific leukemogen factor and a clonal chromosome aberration of the leukemic cells. Papers I and II present results of a case-control study of environmental exposures, in all occupations during life-time, medical treatments with medicines, chemotherapy and radiation, tobacco-use and the exposure to chemical compounds in private life in 120 patients with acute leukemia and of 120 controls, matched for age (+ 4 years), residence and sex. 23. Connected by voids: Interactions and screening in sparse matter
Sammanfattning : Using theory and computations, we study structural and electronic properties of nanoscale systems where regions of low density are important for response and function. Materials with such properties are called sparse matter. Examples include assemblies of organic molecules and layered structures like graphite. LÄS MER
24. Towards a versatile gas sensing platform with epitaxial graphene
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis focuses on how to utilize epitaxially grown graphene on SiC as a basis for ultra-sensitive gas sensor. Several approaches have been tested and evaluated to increase the sensitivity, selectivity, speed of response and stability and of the graphene based gas sensors with a focus on air quality monitoring applications. 25. Charge-transfer excitations and phtophysical properties of molecular building blocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports a state-of-the-art theoretical study of photophysical properties of organic charge-transfer aromatic molecules. These molecules are building blocks of molecular functional materials used in modern photonics technology and play essential roles in chemistry and biology in general. LÄS MER
