6. Endogenous modulators of hyperexcitability in epilepsy: electrophysiological and optogenetic delineation of neuropeptide Y mechanisms in interneurons
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders worldwide, affecting 1% of the general population, and is characterized by a predisposition for the generation of epileptic seizures. Despite having several different aetiologies, a common underlying cause of epilepsy seems to be an acquired imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory circuits in the brain, which leads to hyperexcitability and appearance of seizures. 7. Towards a Sustainable Food System : Entrepreneurship, Resilience and Agriculture in the Baltic Sea Region
Sammanfattning : This thesis compares conventional agriculture and Ecological Recycling Agriculture (ERA) in terms of their environmental and socio-economic effects. Environmental effects include greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, but this analysis focuses on nutrient losses. LÄS MER
8. Assembly and transport of messenger and ribosomal RNP particles in the dipteran Chironomus tentans
Sammanfattning : Gene expression in eukaryotic organisms commences with the synthesis of a precursor RNA, which has to be extensively processed to yield a mature RNA molecule. In addition to processing, the RNA molecule needs to associate with a proper set of proteins. LÄS MER
9. Energy and scrap optimisation of electric arc furnaces by statistical analysis of process data
Sammanfattning : Modern process logging systems for electric arc furnaces have the capability of storing large quantities of data, both in terms of variables and number of heats. The objective of this research is to evaluate how this data can be used for improvement of operating practices and optimisation of energy and scrap utilisation. LÄS MER
10. Transcription and transport of a messenger RNP particle : novel regulatory mechanisms
Sammanfattning : In all living cells gene expression is a central process that involves several steps, including transcription, processing, transport and translation. A fine-tuning of these events is a pre-requisite for proper cellular function. LÄS MER
