  1. 31. Evaluating implementation strategies for improved food safety in Vietnam

    Författare :Hai Hoang Tuan Ngo; Johanna Lindahl; Mats Målqvist; Hung Nguyen-Viet; Fred Unger; Phuc Pham-Duc; Coen van Wagenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Food safety; Intervention; Pork value chain; Cost of illness; Cost-Benefit analysis; Microbial contamination; Experimental auction; Salmonella;

    Sammanfattning : Pork is the most popular and consumed meat in Vietnam, and the preference among consumers for fresh and “warm” pork makes the traditional pork value chain dominate the pork industry. This thesis assessed microbial contamination in pork, then evaluated the technical and economic aspects of light-touch interventions in improving the safety of pork in the small-scale value chain. 2. 32. Microbial and epigenetic factors in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Författare :Xiaoying Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : While uncommon in most of the world, nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) shows an unusual geographic and ethnic distribution, being highly prevalent in Southern China and Southeast Asia. Genetic susceptibility, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and additional environmental exposures are well established risk factors for NPC in endemic areas. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Vaccine strategies based on mycobacterial heat shock protein 65

    Författare :Maria Sundbäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mycobacteria; DNA vaccination; Hsp65; T cells; CD8 T cell epitopes;

    Sammanfattning : Mycobacteria can infect macrophages and dendritic cells (DC), where they reside inside the endosomal compartment. The importance of CD4+ T cells in protective immunity against mycobacteria and other intracellular pathogens is well established, and for a long time these cells were thought to be the major defense in controlling an infection. 4. 34. Can Lactobacillus Reuteri Prevent Allergic Disease in Early Childhood?

    Författare :Thomas Abrahamsson; Maria Jenmalm; Bengt Björkstén; John Bienenstock; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An altered microbial exposure may be partly responsible for the increase of allergic diseases in populations with a western lifestyle. Activation of the immune system by microbes early in life is probably required for an accurate maturation of the immune system. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Antimicrobial potential of strontium against bacteria associated with peri-implantitis

    Författare :Hatem Alshammari; Andreas Stavropoulos; Jessica Neilands; Timo Närhi; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Dental implants are nowadays a standard treatment to replace missing teeth and restore function and aesthetics. However, biological complications associated with implants, e.g., peri-implant infections, are common and jeopardize the success of treatment. LÄS MER
