  1. 1. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells

    Författare :Björn Carlsson; Magnus Essand; Thomas Tötterman; Malcolm Brenner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunotherapy; Adoptive T cell therapy; Dendritic cell; T cell; Tetramer; Cytomegalovirus; Transplantation; pp65; Prostate cancer; TARP; Prostate antigens; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immunomodulatory Effects of Human ImmunodeficiencyVirus (HIV-1) on Dendritic Cell and T cell Responses : Studies of HIV-1 effects on Dendritic cell functionality reflected in primed T cells

    Författare :Karlhans Fru Che; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Douglas Nixon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 is the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) worldwide. Till date there are no vaccines or cure for this infection as the virus has adapted myriad ways to remain persistent in the host where it causes severe damage to the immune system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Towards Immunotherapy of Midgut Carcinoid Tumors

    Författare :Sofia Vikman; Thomas Tötterman; Valeria Giandomenico; Bengt Widegren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunology; midgut carcinoid; gene expression; immunotherapy; tumor antigen; VMAT-1; T cell; HLA-A*0201-binding peptide; IFNγ; regulatory T cell; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Classical midgut carcinoids belong to neuroendocrine tumors of the gastroenteropancreatic tract (GEP-NETs) and are associated with serotonin overproduction. The term midgut is derived from the tumors’ embryological site of origin: enterochromaffin cells in the lower jejunum, ileum, caecum and the ascending colon. LÄS MER

  4. 4. CD8+ T cell specificity in thymic selection and in the recognition of antigen

    Författare :Johan Sandberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :T cell; specificity; MHC class 1; selection; tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : Specificity mediated by the T cell receptor (TCR) is of fundamental importance for the ability of T cells to function, and regulate humoral immunity and effector mechanisms of the innate immune system. T cells recognize composite molecules consisting of products of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I or class 11 loci, in complex with a short peptide fragment derived from endogenous or antigenic proteins. 5. 5. Interdisciplinary characterization of T cell dynamics in HIV infection

    Författare :Marcus Buggert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV has caused one of the most devastating pandemics in modern medicine. HIV infects and kills on of the central players in effector immunity, CD4+ T cells, that provide helper mechanisms to all arms of the immune system. LÄS MER
