21. Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Quantitative Demarcation of Glioblastoma Using 5-Aminolevulinic Acid
Sammanfattning : Total resection of glioblastoma, the highly malignant brain tumor, is difficult to accomplish due to its diffuse growth and similarity to the surrounding brain tissue. A total resection is proven to increase patient survival. LÄS MER
22. Early life influences on adult organ function, health and disease, including data from Swedish population-based cohorts
Sammanfattning : Prenatal insults or adverse events during the in-utero period may lead to suboptimal function of adult organs because of the impairment of critical organ development and growth, as linked to lower birth weight. This may ultimately predispose the individual to the later onset of some diseases in adulthood, a process known as Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). LÄS MER
23. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 24. LDL oxidation, iron, lysosomes, and macrophages in early atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) may result in its uptake by macrophages with ensuing foam cell formation. Thus, oxidised LDL (oxLDL) may play an important role in atherogenesis. Extensive in vitro evidence is in favour of the notion that LDL oxidation by cells present in atherosclerotic plaques requires the presence of transition metals. LÄS MER
