1. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 2. Centrifugal microfluidics-based point of care diagnostics at resource limited settings
Sammanfattning : Advancements in medical diagnostics have allowed us to understand the underlying mechanism and treat the root cause for many diseases which had been causing morbidity and mortality up until this point in human history. Furthermore, many of the standard diagnostic procedures have now been transformed to provide answers at or near the point-of-care. LÄS MER
3. Optical spectroscopy and fluorescence imaging for cancer diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This work presents optical methods for diagnosing cancer. A complementary method for diagnosing eye cancer was investigated using a technique developed within this work named transscleral optical spectroscopy (TOS). LÄS MER
4. Advancing isothermal nucleic acid amplification tests : Towards democratization of diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Modern healthcare is the result of scientific advancement across disciplines and has enabled us to understand the rationale behind many diseases and how to treat or cure them; but still a myriad of unanswered questions remains. Especially infectious diseases play an important role in healthcare as they pose a constant threat for global health and well-being. LÄS MER
5. Development and application of photofragmentation laser-induced fluorescence for visualization of hydrogen peroxides
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is mainly motivated by the need for an optical diagnostic technique which can be used to visualize hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in its gas phase. Due to the lack of bound electronic states, H2O2 cannot be detected using laser-induced fluorescence based on electronic excitation. LÄS MER
