  1. 1. Evaluation of New Non-Pharmacological Therapies for Symptomatic Atrial Fibrillation : With Special Emphasis on the Maze Procedure

    Författare :Stefan Lönnerholm; Lennart Bergfeldt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Atrial fibrillation; Maze procedure; pacing; quality of life; förmaksflimmer; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; Maze kirurgi; livskvalitet; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation is a common disease. With pharmacological therapy most patients with atrial fibrillation have moderate or little symptoms, but a number of patients have severely symptomatic disease. This study evaluates two new non-pharmacological therapies for atrial fibrillation, the Maze procedure and atrial overdrive pacing. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation : effects on rhythm, symptoms and health-related quality of life

    Författare :Anna Björkenheim; Dritan Poçi; Deirdre Lane; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; catheter ablation; symptoms; quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : Background: AF ablation is an increasingly used treatment in patients with AF to improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Atrioventricular junction ablation (AVJA) is a palliative treatment option in therapy refractory AF that improves PROs but renders the patient pacemaker dependent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Conduction Disturbances in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation

    Författare :Eva Hertervig; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Pulmonary Vein Potentials; Atrial Fibrillation; Conduction Disturbances;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The electrophysiological mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation (AF) are incompletely understood. Experimental studies have shown that remodelling of the atrial myocardium is linked to the occurrence and perpetuation of AF. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Atrial Conduction and P-wave Characteristics: From histology to electrophysiology

    Författare :Yan Huo; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Sinus rhythm; Histology; Electrophysiology; Human; P-wave Morphology; Variability of P-wave morphology; P-wave duration;

    Sammanfattning : P-wave morphology reflects the projection of the depolarization vector on the electrocardiogram (ECG)lead axes in three-dimentional space and reflects both right and left atrial activation. The main purpose of current thesis was to explore the internal logic between the atrial conduction properties, including intra- and inter- atrial conduction, and P-wave characteristics from the level of histology to electrophysiology. 5. 5. Atrial fibrillation – on its trigger mechanisms, risks and consequences

    Författare :Dritan Poci; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acute coronary syndromes; atrial fibrillation; AV junctional ablation; CHADS2 score; electrical cardioversion; mortality; stroke; trigger mechanisms;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) frequently impairs quality of life, but in long-term it is associated with an increased morbidity and mortality. Persistent AF may cause changes in the sinus node function, and if converted to sinus rhythm (SR), there is a substantial risk of recurrence of AF. LÄS MER
