  1. 1. On the phase behaviour of hydrogels : A theory of macroion-induced core/shell equilibrium

    Författare :Jonas Gernandt; Per Hansson; Göran Frenning; Renko de Vries; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymer; polyelectrolyte; surfactant; thermodynamics; elasticity; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Colloidal macroions are known to interact very strongly with oppositely charged polyionic hydrogels. Sometimes this results in a non-uniform distribution of the macroions within the gel, a phenomenon that is not fully understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aspects of renal blood flow and oxygenation in acute kidney injury during severe infections

    Författare :Tomas Luther; Robert Frithiof; Michael Hultström; Per Liss; Rafael Kawati; Anders Åneman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute kidney injury; renal blood flow; renal oxygenation; COVID-19; fluids; mitochondria; sepsis; acute respiratory distress syndrome; magnetic resonance imaging; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Severe infections/sepsis is the most common aetiology, and about half of patients treated in the ICU due to sepsis are affected. Although AKI often resolves over time, the development of AKI decreases the chances of surviving. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Volume effects of albumin infusion in humans

    Författare :Markus Zdolsek; Folke Sjöberg; Robert Hahn; Simon Farnebo; Peter Bentzer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The use of colloids when treating a patient for hypovolemia has been debated throughout the years. During the last decade, albumin solutions have become the colloids of choice in both operating theatres and intensive care settings when crystalloid fluids are insufficient. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Thermophysical Properties of Aqueous Solutions Used as Secondary Working Fluids

    Författare :Åke Melinder; Björn Palm; Antero Aittomäki; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Secondary working fluids; secondary refrigerants; indirect systems; aqueous solutions; ice slurry; thermophysical properties; freezing point; density; viscosity; specific heat; thermal conductivity; Mechanical and thermal engineering; Mekanisk och termisk energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Secondary working fluids (secondary refrigerants, heat transfer fluids, antifreezes, brines) have long been used in various indirect re-frigeration and heat pump systems. Aqueous solutions (water solu-tions) have long been used as single phase (liquid only) secondary working fluids for cooling in supermarkets, ice rinks, heat recovery systems, heat pumps and other applications. 5. 5. How do metamorphic fluids move through rocks? : An investigation of timescales, infiltration mechanisms and mineralogical controls

    Författare :Barbara I. Kleine; Alasdair D. L. Skelton; John C. Schumacher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metamorphic fluid flow; fluid-rock interaction; fluid infiltration mechanisms; fluid flux rates; thermodynamic modeling; reaction front propagation; fluid flux calculation; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to provide a better understanding of the role of mountain building in the carbon cycle. The amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is largely unknown. LÄS MER
