16. Simulation of deformable objects transported in fluid flow
Sammanfattning : Deformable particles suspended in a viscous fluid can be found in many industrial and biological applications. In this thesis, two different numerical tools have been developed to simulate suspensions of capsules, thin membranes enclosing a second fluid and a rigid nucleus so to work as model for ”Eukaryotic” cells, and flexible slender bodies known as filaments/fibres. 17. Controlling the Roll Responses of Volume Carriers
Sammanfattning : Modern volume carriers such as container vessels, cruise ships and Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC’s) have become more vulnerable to critical roll responses as built in margins have been traded against increased transport efficiency. The research presented in this doctoral thesis aims at enhancing the predictability and control of these critical roll responses. LÄS MER
18. Investigations of Waterjet/Hull Interaction Effects
Sammanfattning : A waterjet propulsor operates in a different way than a conventional propeller. This makes it hard to use the same concepts for studying the thrust and powering of these systems. LÄS MER
19. A Novel Immersed-Boundary Method for Multiple Moving and Interacting Bodies
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development, implementation and validation of an implicit, second order accurate, finite-volume and instationary immersed-boundary method for simulating the detailed flow around multiple arbitrary moving and interacting bodies. The potential for flows including moving bodies or boundaries, such as multiphase flows still has to be fully realized. LÄS MER
20. Numerical Methods for Aeroacoustic Analysis of Turbomachinery
Sammanfattning : Air transportation is today an integral part of many peoples life and it continuously grow to serve more of us in new and ingenious ways. There are however negative sides to this growth as well, such as increased noise around airports and more CO2 emissions, which must be addressed if aviation is to be part of a sustainable future.
