1. Epidemiological, mechanistic and genetic aspects of vascular ageing and arterial stiffness in the population
Sammanfattning : The core feature of vascular ageing is the age-associated stiffening of the large, elastic arteries, or arteriosclerosis. This results in a diminished volume-buffering function and is therefore central for the increase in systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure seen with advancing age. LÄS MER
2. Cerebral Blood Flow and Cognition. Clinical studies on Dementia and Cognitive Decline
Sammanfattning : The importance of early detection of brain changes during ageing has been recognised. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a method used for estimation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) in clinical work and in research. LÄS MER
3. Biological ageing and kidney transplantation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of biological ageing in patients with chronic kidney disease, the effect of kidney transplantation on biological ageing and longterm outcome in patients with kidney failure. We used the national Swedish renal registry (SNR), ScandiaTransplant´s database YASWA, patient records and different methods to analyze biological ageing and circulatory microbiota to address this aim. 4. On cardiovascular responses to hypovolemic circulatory stress. An experimental study in man
Sammanfattning : Aged subjects have a decreased tolerance to hypovolemia, which could contribute to their increased cardiovascular morbidity. One possible etiological factor might be an age-related reduction in the efficiency of the baroreceptor reflex axis. LÄS MER
5. Chronic kidney disease and early vascular ageing : pinpointing culprits of injury and targets for intervention
Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive non-communicable disease, and a clinical model of premature ageing. Approximately 1 in 10 people globally have CKD, defined as abnormalities of kidney structure and/or function that persist for more than threemonths. LÄS MER
