  1. 11. Impact of Drinking Water Treatment and Pipe Biofilms on Bacterial Dynamics in the Distribution System

    Författare :Kristjan Pullerits; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drinking water treatment; Drinking water treatment plant; UV; Slow sand filter; Ultrafiltration; Drinking water distribution system; Biofilm; Biostability; Nitrification; Bacterial communities; Flow cytometry; Next-generation sequencing; 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses drinking water quality and microbiology in full-scale drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs). It examines how UV irradiation and slow sand filters (SSFs) alter the water bacteriome, and how the biofilm in the DWDS affects the drinking water quality. LÄS MER

  2. 12. UVA/B induced redox alterations and apoptosis in human melanocytes

    Författare :Petra Wäster Larsson; Inger Rosdahl; Karin Öllinger; Ian Cotgreave; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; UV; melanocyte; apoptosis; glutathione; p53; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers and accounts for about three-quarter of all skin cancer deaths worldwide. Despite compelling evidence that ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes melanoma the knowledge how various wavelength spectra affect the balance between proliferation and apoptosis controlling the homeostasis of the melanocyte population is still limited. Sammanfattning : Cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea are dominated by diazotrophic cyanobacteria, i.e. Aphanizomenon sp. and Nodularia spumigena. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Thiol-Ene CHemistry and Dopa-Functional Materials towards Biomedical Applications

    Författare :Kristina Olofsson; Anders Hult; Michael Malkoch; Anders Daugaard; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thiol-ene chemistry; DOPA; biomedical; UV; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Thiol-ene chemistry is versatile and efficient and can be used as a powerful tool in polymer synthesis. In this thesis, the concept of thiol-ene chemistry has been central, where it has been explored as a tool for the synthesis of well-defined hydrogels and dopa-functional materials towards biomedical applications; such as hydrogels, primers for adhesive fixation of bone fractures, self-healing gels, and micelles for drug-delivery. 5. 15. Detection and analysis of genetic alterations in normal skin and skin tumours

    Författare :Åsa Sivertsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :single cell; DNA sequencing; p53; mutation; UV; BCC; pyrosequencing; malignant melanoma; N-ras;

    Sammanfattning : The investigation of genetic alterations in cancer-relatedgenes is useful for research, prognostic and therapeuticpurposes. However, the genetic heterogeneity that often occursduring tumour progression can make correct analysischallenging. LÄS MER
