  1. 11. The Importance of Cell-Mediated Immunity for the Development of Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Maria G. E. Karlsson; Stellan Sandler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease characterised by infiltration of T-lymphocytes in the islets of Langerhans. In particular, activated Th1-like lymphocytes secreting IFN-γ are suggested to contribute to the inflammatory process and the destruction of ß-cells, whereas Th2-like cells producing IL-4 might even be protective. 2. 12. Immunological interactions between mother and child during pregnancy in relation to the development of allergic diseases in the offspring

    Författare :Martina Abelius; Maria Jenmalm; Lennart Nilsson; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pregnancy and allergic disease have both been postulated as T-helper 2 (Th2) phenomena. Thus, the increased propensity of allergic mothers to mount Th2-responses might generate favourable effects on the maintenance of pregnancy, but might also be unfavorable, as fetal exposure to a strong Th2 environment could influence the immune development in the offspring to a Th2-like phenotype, favouring IgE production and possibly allergy development later in life. 3. 13. Regulatory immune responses in humans naturally primed to Plasmodium falciparum or vaccinated with tetanum toxoid or purified protein derivative

    Författare :Gehad Elghazali; Thor Grundtvig Theander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that the balance between functionally distinct regulatory CD4+ T cells plays a major role in the development of immunity and/or pathogenesis to many different infections. In spite of the importance of Th lineage commitment in disease, the critical questions how the balance between Th1 and Th2 cells is regulated is largely unresolved. LÄS MER

  4. 14. IL-25 and B cells in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Polyxeni Mantani; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-25; B cells; ILC2s; IL-5; anti-PC IgM; atherosclerosis; stroke; cardiovascular events;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of medium and large vessels of the body which is mainly characterized by the formation of lipid rich plaques within the arterial tissue. It is the most common cause of cardiovascular disease leading to clinical manifestations of coronary artery and cerebrovascular disease. LÄS MER

  5. 15. GAD65 An Immunomodulator in Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Stina Axelsson; Rosaura Casas; Johnny Ludvigsson; Guro Gafvelin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by a deficiency of insulin as a result of an autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic ² -cells. A possibility to preserve remaining ² -cells in children with newly diagnosed T1D is of great importance since sustained ² -cell function is recognized to result in reduced end-organ complications.
