21. Immunomodulation by intravenous immunoglobulin : the effect on cytokine production studied at the single-cell level
Sammanfattning : Preparations of pooled human immunoglobulin for intravenous use (IVIg) have an established therapeutic role in immunodeficiencies, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura and Kawasaki's disease and has been attempted in other immunologically mediated conditions including autoimmunity, malignancies, bone marrow transplantation and serious infections such as group A streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. The effects of IVIg on cytokine synthesis in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) was studied in vitro by applying a new immunohistochemical method for detection of cytokine production at a single cell level. 22. Immune regulation in multiple sclerosis : cytokines and metalloproteinases
Sammanfattning : Immunological mechanisms play a central role in the pathogenesis sclerosis (MS). In this study two groups of related immune variables are cytokines and metalloproteinases (MMPs), which regulate each other's production and activation. LÄS MER
23. Clinical, epidemiological and immunological aspects of Lyme borreliosis with special focus on the role of the complement system
Sammanfattning : Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. The infection is caused by spirochetes belonging to the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex, and it is transmitted to humans by ticks. LÄS MER
24. Cellular and molecular mechanisms in immune mediated hepatic fibrosis. A study of the inflammatory syndrome and fibrosis development of the NIF mouse liver
Sammanfattning : Fibrosis is the result of dysregulated inflammation and tissue repair, and is characterized by the excessive accumulation of extra cellular matrix (ECM) proteins. It causes detrimental effects to the afflicted tissue and can subsequently lead to organ failure. LÄS MER
25. Immunopathogenesis of Guillain-Barré syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradoculoneuropathy
Sammanfattning : Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy with acute onset and usually a spontaneous recovery. Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is a chronic progressive inflammatory neuropathy. GBS and CIDP are associated with high morbidity despite treatment with immunomodulatory drugs. LÄS MER
