  1. 26. Chemical substitution with a life cycle perspective: The case of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in durable water repellents

    Författare :Hanna Holmquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCIA; CAA; LCA; PFAS; DWR;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to support the process of substitution of side-chain fluorinated polymers in durable water repellents (DWRs), that give rise to emissions of hazardous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The focus was on: i) the provision of improved decision support regarding the environmental and human health performance of alternatives, and ii) public readiness for substitution and what messages can motivate consumers to voluntary substitution. 2. 27. Navigating towards environmental impact assessment of shipping

    Författare :Anna Lunde Hermansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DAPSIR; scrubbers; metals; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; marine environment; ship pollution;

    Sammanfattning : The shipping sector exert multiple pressures on the environment, affecting climate change, human health and the marine environment. From a policy perspective, shipping is usually assessed based on the emissions to air (e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Management of ship-generated waste - illustrated from the Baltic Sea perspective

    Författare :Magda Wilewska-Bien; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; shipping; fly ash; Baltic Sea; food waste; nutrients; leaching;

    Sammanfattning : Globally around one-third of food produced for human consumption is wasted or lost. Although the food waste issues on land are being widely discussed, the food waste generated on ships seems not to receive similar attention. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Exploring the circular economy of urban organic waste in sub-Saharan Africa: opportunities and challenges

    Författare :Daniel Ddiba; Göran Finnveden; Elisabeth Ekener; Sarah Dickin; Cecilia Lalander; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biowaste; governance capacity; resource recovery; sub-Saharan Africa; sustainable sanitation; sustainable urban development; circular economy; Strategier för hållbar utveckling; Strategies for sustainable development;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, there is increasing awareness of the importance of applying circular economy principles to the management of organic waste streams through resource recovery. In the urban areas of sub-Saharan Africa which are going to host a significant part of population growth over the next three decades, this is especially relevant. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Peat Coated with Iron Oxides : Purification of Metal(loid)-Contaminated Water and Treatment of the Spent Adsorbent

    Författare :Alfreda Kasiuliene; Jurate Kumpiene; Ivan Carabante; Prosun Bhattacharya; Luke Beesly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; iron-peat; adsorption; arsenic; metals; combustion; hydrothermal carbonisation; landfilling; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden due to the industrial activities, such as wood impregnation, multiple point sources of arsenic (As) contamination in soil and water bodies are scattered over the country. Metals, such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) or zinc (Zn) at varying concentrations are usually present as well. LÄS MER
