  1. 31. Methane dynamics in northern lakes : Insights from multi-scale observations

    Författare :Jonathan Schenk; David Bastviken; Magnus Gålfalk; Damien Maher; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Methane; Lakes; Variability; Sampling design; Models;

    Sammanfattning : Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas which is emitted to the atmosphere from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Current evidence indicates that lakes account for a large part of the global emissions of CH4, but their contribution is difficult to quantify because of large temporal and spatial variability in processes leading to CH4 fluxes from lakes to the atmosphere. 2. 32. Fast and High-Quality Visibility Determination

    Författare :Rasmus Barringer; Institutionen för datavetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer graphics; visibility; anti-aliasing; line sampling; ray tracing; rendering;

    Sammanfattning : Computer generated imagery is vital to the entertainment industry in the production of games and films, for example. It is also increasingly important for visualization in design, architecture, engineering, and medicine, to name a few. Improvements to rendering techniques come from a combination of improved algorithms and more powerful hardware. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Noise design : Architectural Modelling and the Aesthetics of Urban Acoustic Spase

    Författare :Björn Hellström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :architecture; music; aesthetics; sound art; acoustic space; sound design; sound effect; sound identity; sound morphology; graphic notation; sampling culture; acousmatics; metabolic effect; schizophonia;

    Sammanfattning : Noise Design takes up a structural approach to sound issuesin general and more particularly to urban acoustic space. Whilemost recent research efforts in the field adopt a defensiveattitude by seeking to protect people from sounds, this bookcelebrates our constructive and creative relations with thesound world and develops methods to manage sounds as mediatorsof qualitative information. 4. 34. Environmental Effects of Agricultural Expansion in the Upper Amazon : A study of river basin geochemistry and hydrochemistry, and farmers' perceptions

    Författare :Lina Lindell; Mats Åström; Marianne Henningsson; Pasi Peltola; Tommy Claesson; Michael E McClain; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :tropical humid forest; deforestation; land-use change; slash-and-burn agriculture; spatial variation; vertical distribution; multielement analysis; sustainable development; rural livelihoods; bosque húmedo tropical; deforestación; cambios de uso de la tierra; agricultura de tala y quema; variabilidad espacial; distribución vertical; análisis multielemental; desarrollo sostenible; cambio climático; sustentos rurales; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis natural science is combined with environmental psychology in order to determine how deforestation and subsequent agricultural expansion in the Peruvian highland jungle has affected the natural environment and rural livelihoods. This region is part of one of the most biodiverse areas on Earth and is also exposed to high pressure from deforestation that threatens the ecosystems as well as the well-being of local populations. 5. 35. Analytical developments and applications of ambient mass spectrometry imaging : Visualizing challenging analytes and understanding chemical mechanisms of ischemic stroke

    Författare :Leonidas Mavroudakis; Ingela Lanekoff; Daniel Globisch; Malcolm Clench; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass spectrometry imaging; ischemic stroke; mass spectrometry; isomers; spatial metabolomics; host-guest; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Bioanalytical methods that provide spatial information on molecular distributions are important for deep understanding of chemical mechanisms in health and disease. For instance, the localized action of drugs and metabolites can provide valuable information on metabolism in specific cellular regions, which would not be possible with bulk analysis. LÄS MER
