  1. 6. Strengthening conservation through green infrastructure : linking protected areas, habitats and species

    Författare :Ewa Orlikowska; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The green infrastructure (GI) concept was developed to mitigate habitat fragmentation. The European Union (EU) defines GI as “a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas …designed and managed to deliver a wide range of ecosystem services and to improve connectivity of protected areas in order to promote multifunctional landscapes”. 2. 7. Population Genetic Analyses of Natal Dispersal and Substructure in Three Bird Species

    Författare :Tobias Sahlman; Jan Ekman; Jacob Höglund; Ben J. Hatchwell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ecology; Perisoreus infaustus; Gallinago media; Lagopus muta; relatedness; philopatry; biased dispersal; phylogeography; microsatellite; mitochondrial DNA; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic variation within and among populations is a result of past and ongoing processes. Among the most important of such processes are dispersal, habitat fragmentation and selection. This thesis use neutral genetic variation as a tool to investigate these processes in three bird species. LÄS MER

  3. 8. The forgotten forest : on thinning, retention, and biodiversity in the boreal forest

    Författare :Julian Klein; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fennoscandia has had a long history of intensive forest management. It can therefore be regarded a trial zone for other boreal regions which are still largely unaffected by forestry. In Fennoscandia, forestry has resulted in many threatened species and methods that maintain biodiversity have therefore been called for. LÄS MER
