  1. 36. A MATTER OF NUTRIENT EXCESS AND SHEAR STRESS

    Författare :Ramasri Sathanoori; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome is a clustering of several risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Diabetes is a global problem with 90% of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes (T2D), which is attributable to various factors including genetic predispositions and lifestyle. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Physiological aspects of the glomerular filtration barrier

    Författare :Kristinn Sverrisson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Proteinuria is associated with progression of kidney disease and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The pathophysiological alterations resulting in proteinuria are obscure, although proteinuria is often associated with pathological changes in the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB). LÄS MER

  3. 38. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy - Mechanisms of Action and Protecting Exposed Blood Vessels in the Wound Bed

    Författare :Erik Anesäter; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Negative pressure wound therapy; wounds; complications; experimental surgery; blood flow;

    Sammanfattning : NPWT has recently been associated with severe complications and bleeding when used in wounds with exposed blood vessels. The aims of this work were to investigate the mechanisms of action of NPWT and to explore the possibility of using thin plastic discs to protect exposed blood vessels in the wound bed during NPWT. Sammanfattning : Poststernotomy mediastinitis is a devastating complication associated with median sternotomy, which occurs mainly after cardiac surgery. The optimal treatment is still controversial. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Risk stratification in cardiac surgery: Algorithms and applications

    Författare :Johan Nilsson; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Cardiac surgery; Statistics; Artificial neural networks; Resource utilization; Mortality; Risk factors; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this research was to compare different risk score algorithms with regard to their validity to predict 30-day and one-year mortality after open-heart surgery, to evaluate if the preoperative risk stratification model EuroSCORE predicts the different components of resource utilization in cardiac surgery, and to systematically evaluate the accuracy and performance of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to select and rank the most important risk factors for operative mortality in open-heart surgery. Preoperative evaluation of the surgical risk is an important component in cardiac surgery. LÄS MER
