21. Immunological markers and clinical characteristics of pulmonary inflammation
Sammanfattning : Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) includes a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the lung parenchyma. Common to these conditions is the exacerbated pulmonary immunological response leading to inflammation, disordered tissue healing, and, in a proportion of patients, chronic pulmonary fibrosis. 22. Between two lungs : proteomic and metabolomic approaches in inflammatory lung diseases
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents results on proteomic and metabolomic profiling of two distinct inflammatory lung diseases: sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Chronic inflammatory lung diseases are debilitating conditions representing a major health problem throughout the world. LÄS MER
23. Studies on neurotrophins in inflammatory pulmonary diseases
Sammanfattning : Asthma, sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are inflammatory pulmonary diseases, all being characterized by tissue inflammation, tissue damage (airway remodeling) and loss of lung function. In order to increase possibilities to find new biomarkers, drug targets and better treatment options for the patients, further research on the underlying mechanisms driving the inflammation and airway remodeling in these diseases are required. 24. Rickettsia helvetica; Detection in arthropods and human tissues and its relation to clinical disease
Sammanfattning : A relation between R. helvetica and perimyocarditis was, in two young men who died of sudden cardiac death during exercise in 1997, suggested by a seminested PCR, for three different genes, sequencing of the amplified products, documentation of a seroresponse and histopathologic changes in accordance with rickettsioses. 25. Lung T cells in inflammatory disorders : an approach to interstitial lung disease, multiple sclerosis and smoking induced inflammation
Sammanfattning : The lungs are constantly exposed to microorganisms and environmental irritants. Pulmonary inflammation is the result of an immune process to protect the body, and may sometimes eventually result in disease. T cells including various subsets are of major importance for orchestrating the protection of the lung as well as for inflammatory reactions. LÄS MER
