16. The blind spot : inflammatory pathways and specific antigens in clinical phenotypes of pulmonary sarcoidosis
Sammanfattning : Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous multisystem disorder of unknown aetiology, primarily manifesting in the lungs. The disease appears in two forms, which are mainly distinguished based on clinical criteria; Löfgren's syndrome (LS) presents with acute onset, usually fever, active inflammation and characteristic symptoms such as bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy (BHL), erythema nodosum and/or ankle arthritis, but is also associated with spontaneous resolution and a good prognosis. 17. Sarcoidosis : expression of cell regulatory markers and the influence of patient phenotype on bronchoalveolar lavage cell differential counts
Sammanfattning : Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ, but the respiratory system is affected in more than 90% of the cases. To elicit an immune response, an antigen(s) is processed by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), e.g. LÄS MER
18. Apoptosis in chronic inflammation, with specific reference to airway disease
Sammanfattning : Mechanisms governing the normal resolution processes of inflammation in the lung are poorly understood, yet their elucidation may lead to a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of several pulmonary inflammatory disorders. The elimination of activated lymphocytes by apoptosis is one prerequisite for resolution, and knowledge concerning the role of apoptosis in chronic inflammation is still far from complete. LÄS MER
19. T cell antigen receptor usage, phenotype and cytokine production in human diseases
Sammanfattning : T lymphocytes are of critical importance for initiating and controlling immune responses, as the T cell receptor (TCR) for antigen allows a highly specific antigen recognition. Determination of TCR usage and characterization of T cell subsets in different diseases helps us understand the underlying immunopathogenic mechanisms, and may also lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches. 20. Immunopeptidomics and autoantigens of interstitial lung diseases
Sammanfattning : We investigate Sarcoidosis and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, IPF, to find markers for early fibrosis development. The aetiologies for both diseases are unknown and there is no specific treatment, moreover, there is a lack of diagnostic biomarkers for both diagnose and disease activity. LÄS MER
