6. Benchmark Simulation Model for Integrated Urban Wastewater Systems : Model Development and Control Strategy Evaluation
Sammanfattning : The integrated urban wastewater system (UWS) consists of different sections that are interconnected. These include: i) catchment; ii) sewer network; iii) wastewater treatment plant (WWTP); and finally, iv) receiving water system. Traditionally, these sections are operated and evaluated individually. 7. "Under pressure" : interaction between pharmaceuticals and river bacteria
Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are often entering the environment without being completely decomposed. Once released in the environment they continue to carry on their main function but instead targeting the inhabitants of the aquatic ecosystem. Our interest was drawn towards the bacteria, that are often present in the environment in the form of biofilms. LÄS MER
8. Bridging the blocked river : A study on internet and mobile phone practices within an environmental movement between 2005 and 2008 in Argentina and Uruguay
Sammanfattning : In recent years mobile phones and the internet have played an increasingly significant role, assisting in the organization of dissent worldwide. Only a few studies have dealt with the interplay between social movements and these digital media in Latin America so far. LÄS MER
9. Impacts of climate oscillation on precipitation and river flows of small scale river basins in Eastern Northeast Brazil
Sammanfattning : The Northeast region of Brazil is one of the most susceptible parts of the country to the effects of climate variability leading to severe droughts or extreme floods. Indeed, drought is a major issue due to a large semiarid area that covers 53% of the region, which determines the main climate characteristics of this region. LÄS MER
10. Impacts of climate change on surface hydrology in the source region of the Yellow River
Sammanfattning : The source region of the Yellow River contributes about 35% of the total water yield in the Yellow River basin playing an important role for meeting the downstream water resources requirements. The declining water availability caused by climate change in the source region of the Yellow River is expected to have severe repercussions for the 110 million basin inhabitants in terms of water resources affecting agricultural productivity, municipal, and industrial water supply.
