1. Basin-scale change in water availability and water quality under intensified irrigated agriculture
Sammanfattning : Changes in land use and water use can greatly impact the cycling of water and water-borne substances. Increased redistribution of river water to irrigated fields can cause enhanced evapotranspiration and decreased river discharge. LÄS MER
2. Hydrodynamic modelling of microbial water quality in drinking water sources
Sammanfattning : The faecal contamination of water sources can cause waterborne disease outbreaks among drinking water consumers. To design drinking water treatment and minimise consumer health risks, knowledge on source water quality is needed. LÄS MER
3. METHODS FOR TRANSBOUNDARY WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN WATER STRESSED REGIONS – CASE STUDY: SOUTHERN AFRICA
Sammanfattning : Water resources management in water scarce regions like the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) is challenging with both large hydro-climatic-induced scarcity and the considerable inter-annual fluctuations at the centre of the allocation problem. Water must be allocated both in time and space using acceptable criteria and most importantly, all stakeholders must adhere to the decisions imposed by water sharing agreements. LÄS MER
4. Landslide of contaminated soil into rivers: Environmental impacts and risks
Sammanfattning : Landslide risk assessments and environmental risk assessments are routinely carried out in many countries exposed to landslide hazards and/or contaminated soil hazards, but separately from each other. By combining results from different types of risk assessments and superimposing the results, possible multi-hazards may be revealed, which is not the case when the results are only displayed independently. 5. Land-Sea Interactions in the Coastal-Marine System of the Baltic Sea under Hydro-Climatic Variability
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates a few important component processes for understanding and quantifying eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, that include characterization of nutrient loadings from land, water flow in the sea under changing climate conditions and transport of solutes originating from different locations along the coast. Furthermore, this study aims to improve our understanding on how processes from land (the nutrient loading conditions) and the sea (transport dynamics and water quality) couple to determine the fate of nutrients in the sea and the water quality in a selected localized coastal area, the Himmerfjärden Bay.
