1. Chemical reactions in ventilation systems : Ozonolysis of monoterpenes
Sammanfattning : Chemicals in indoor air, either emitted from a source or from a reaction, have been suggested to cause ill health in buildings. However, no clear correlations between exposure and health effects have been made. In this thesis we studied the reaction between monoterpenes, a group of biogenic unsaturated C10 hydrocarbons, and ozone. LÄS MER
2. "Under pressure" : interaction between pharmaceuticals and river bacteria
Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are often entering the environment without being completely decomposed. Once released in the environment they continue to carry on their main function but instead targeting the inhabitants of the aquatic ecosystem. Our interest was drawn towards the bacteria, that are often present in the environment in the form of biofilms. LÄS MER
3. Monitoring anti-infectives and antibiotic resistance genes : with focus on analytical method development, effects of antibiotics and national perspectives
Sammanfattning : Antibiotics are biologically active and are globally used in humans and animal medicine for treatment and in sub-therapeutic amounts as growth promoters in animal husbandry, aquaculture and agriculture. After excretion, inappropriate disposal and discharge from drug production facilities they enter into water bodies either as intact drugs, metabolites or transformed products. LÄS MER
4. Exploring the fate of emerging contaminants during hydrothermal regeneration of carbonaceous adsorbents
Sammanfattning : Wastewater from households and industries commonly contain emerging contaminants that are not easily removed by most wastewater treatment plants. These contaminants can be removed through adsorption onto adsorbents, such as activated carbon or biochars. LÄS MER
5. Damsel in distress – metabolomics as a novel tool to investigate the effects of wastewater exposure on damselfly larvae
Sammanfattning : Aquatic organisms, such as aquatic invertebrates, are exposed to anthropogenic pollutants through their environment. These pollutants, despite their low levels, can adversely affect exposed individuals or even entire ecosystems, especially when present in complex mixtures. LÄS MER
