11. Optical and laser diagnostics : The versatility of Imaging
Sammanfattning : Optical and laser diagnostics is a field where optical techniques are developed that offer remote, non-intrusive measurements in order to characterise a system. Imaging is a big part of this field and the versatility it offers makes it a great tool in the hands of researchers and in practical applications. LÄS MER
12. Invasive fungal infections in immunocompromised hosts : epidemiology and diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This doctoral project aimed to attain a more in-depth knowledge of the epidemiology and diagnosis of invasive fungal infections. In Study I, we evaluated the diagnostic performance of PCR/ESI-MS. LÄS MER
13. Mitochondrial dysfunction and the metabolism - studies on respiratory chain disorders
Sammanfattning : Background: Mutations of the mitochondrial assembly factor BCS1L disrupt assembly and function of the respiratory chain complex III (CIII) and thereby result in energy deprivation. In GRACILE syndrome, the BCS1L mutation causes a liver disorder that leads to metabolic disturbances associated with severe growth restriction. LÄS MER
14. Oral Disease and Health Patterns : Dental and Cranial Paleopathology of the Early Iron Age Population at Smörkullen in Alvastra, Sweden
Sammanfattning : In skeletal remains of ancient populations, evidence of dental and craniofacial pathology is often well preserved in the form of lesions on the teeth or bones. Meticulous, detailed recording of these lesions provides baseline data on which a realistic assessment can be made of the probable impact of dental diseases and its sequelae on health of these earlier populations. 15. Novel diagnostics and treatment of acute lung injury and transplantation - Preclinical and clinical implementation
Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury (ALI) and its most severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) limit the utilization of donor lungs for transplantation but is also a common cause of death in the intensive care unit. There is a general lack of diagnostic tools by which to assess lung function in ARDS but, in addition, the treatments offered are limited. LÄS MER
