11. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy
Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 12. Systemic effects after ionizing radiation exposure: Genome-wide transcriptional analysis of mouse normal tissues exposed to (211)At, (131)I, or 4 MV photon beam
Sammanfattning : The radionuclides 131I and 211At are used or proposed for a variety of cancer treatments. Both radiohalogens exhibit considerable uptake in the thyroid gland and–to a lower degree–in various other tissues if they are unbound or released from a cancer-targeting agent. LÄS MER
13. Arctic clouds - interactions with radiation and thermodynamic structure
Sammanfattning : Clouds play in important role in the climate system through their interaction with radiation. Globally, clouds tend to cool the Earth by reflecting solar radiation and shading the surface. LÄS MER
14. Atomic Scale Degradation of Zirconium Alloys for Nuclear Applications
Sammanfattning : Due to their low thermal neutron capture cross-section, zirconium alloys are widely used in the nuclear industry as fuel cladding and for structural components. The lifetime of the fuel assemblies in the reactors is primarily dictated by the ability of the cladding to withstand oxidation and hydrogen pick-up from the coolant water and radiation damage induced by the neutron flux. 15. Optical Studies For Synchrotron Radiation Beamlines
Sammanfattning : Synchrotron radiation sources have greatly contributed to the progress in many fields of science. The development of the storage ring technologies has made possible to obtain very low emittance electron beams, which together with the use of undulators allow guiding a very high photon flux into a very small spot required by the experiments.
