1. Evaluating thinning practices and assessment methods for improved management in coniferous production forests in southern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Most of our knowledge about wood production of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and associated silvicultural guidelines are based on field experiments. LÄS MER
2. The forestry-wood chain : simulation technique, measurement accuracy, traceability concept
Sammanfattning : A customer-oriented production philosophy, an integrated forestry-wood chain and the global vision of Precision Forestry are concepts that researchers and people involved in the forest and wood industry have to deal with in the beginning of this new millennium. Fulfilling the specific requirements for dimension, length, biological features and proof-of-origin that customers demand for the wood products entails the existence of advanced methods and tools for understanding and thus controlling the production process along the forestry-wood value chain. 3. Data driven crop disease modeling
Sammanfattning : The concept of precision farming deals with the creation and use of data from machinery and sensors on and off the field to optimize resources and sustainably intensify food production to keep up with increasing demand. However, in the face of a growing amount of data being collected, smarter data processing and analysis techniques are needed and have prompted the evaluation and incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for multiple use cases right from seeding to harvesting. 4. Cognition and decision-making in adoption of agricultural decision support systems : the case of precision agriculture
Sammanfattning : Precision agriculture (PA) has a central role to play in a sustainable intensification trajectory of agriculture, including increased yields and decreased environmental impact. Although grounded in advanced technologies this still implies that the individual farmer will have to develop knowledge that is complex, diverse and local. LÄS MER
5. Irrigation and horticultural practices in ornamental greenhouse production : implementation of scientific knowledge into irrigation practices and methods
Sammanfattning : Irrigation in greenhouse pot plant production is traditionally managed using a tactile perceptual method. This method, in this thesis called ‘the golden grip’, is based on the grower’s experiential knowledge where water requirement is determined by combining the estimated weight of the pot (both growing medium and plant) with factors such as plant age, developmental stage and size in combination with prevailing and future climate conditions.
