  1. 1. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor : A Rare Malignancy with Favorable Outcome

    Författare :Olov Norlén; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Peyman Björklund; Anders Sundin; Peter Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroendocrine tumor; peritoneal carcinomatosis; single nucleotide polymorphism array; liver metastases; radiofrequency ablation; liver surgery; positron emission tomography; somatostatin analogs; cholecystectomy; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumor (SI-NET) is the most common small bowel tumor in Europe and USA, with an annual incidence of around 0.3-1.3/100000 persons. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Human dendritic cells : a study of early events during pathogen recognition and antigen endocytosis

    Författare :Peter Hellman; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dendritic cells; zeolites;

    Sammanfattning : The mononuclear phagocyte cell system includes monocytes, macrophages anddendritic cells which are important cells in order to recognize, ingest, destroyand also present part of a pathogen to T-lymphocytes in order to activate theadaptive immune system. Dendritic cells (DCs) stand out in their ability tostimulate T-lymphocytes and are also believed to be important to keeptolerance for “self-antigens”. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Calcium Homeostasis in Patients with Graves' Disease

    Författare :Maria Annerbo; Per Hellman; Peter Stålberg; Peyman Björklund; Filipsson Nyström Helena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Graves Disease; Calcium homeostasis; Total thyroidectomy; Bone metabolism; Calcium sensing receptor; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with Graves´ Disease (GD) have a higher risk of developing more severe and prolonged hypocalcaemia after total thyroidectomy (TT) than patients who undergo surgery for benign atoxic goitre. Since TT is the most effective treatment for GD, it is crucial to identify mechanisms for postoperative hypocalcaemia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular studies of endocrine tumors : Insights from genetics and epigenetics

    Författare :Samuel Backman; Per Hellman; Peter Stålberg; Olov Norlén; Robert Bränström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroendocrine tumors; Carcinoid; Pheochromocytoma; Aldosterone; Cancer; MEN1; Multiple endocrine neoplasia; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Endocrine tumors may be benign or malignant and may occur in any of the hormone producing tissues. They share several biological characteristics, including a low mutation-burden, and may co-occur in several hereditary tumor syndromes. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic and epigenetic aberrations in endocrine tumors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors

    Författare :Elham Barazeghi; Gunnar Westin; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Christofer Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; 5hmC; TET1; TET2; parathyroid tumors; SI-NET; RRBS; PTPRM;

    Sammanfattning : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs).
