  1. 21. Dispersal and environmental impact of contaminants in organic rich, fibrous sediments of industrial origin in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Anna Apler; Ian Snowball; Karin Wiberg; Kevin Bishop; Sarah Josefsson; Lovisa Zillén; Ida-Maja Hassellöv; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiberbank; fiber-rich sediments; metals; persistent organic pollutants; pore water; bottom water; dispersal; sorption; pulp and paper; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : The health of the Baltic Sea is negatively affected by hazardous substances such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which include legacy pollutants that were banned decades ago, but still circulate in the ecosystem. Elevated levels of legacy pollutants, identified by HELCOM as key hazardous substances, have been found in accumulations of fibrous sediments, so-called fiberbanks and fiber-rich sediments, which derive from old pulp mills along the Swedish north coast. 2. 22. Comprehensive non-target screening to find and identify new biomagnifying organic contaminants in Baltic Sea top consumers

    Författare :Andriy Rebryk; Peter Haglund; Christine Gallampois; Mats Tysklind; Jacob de Boer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; persistent organic pollutants; contaminants of emerging concern; non-target screening; GC-MS; biomagnification; temporal trends; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi; environmental science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The development of industrial processes in the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular oil refining, resulted in a huge discovery and subsequent large-scale production of a variety of chemicals. These useful chemicals supposedly made the everyday lives of people easier and better by, for instance, controlling the spread of diseases such as malaria, through the use of DDT and other organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). 3. 23. Waste incineration residues : Persistent organic pollutants in flue gas and fly ash from waste incineration

    Författare :Eva Weidemann; Lisa Lundin; Stellan Marklund; Jean-Francois Boily; Henrik Bristav; Kees Olie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MSW; PCDD; PCDF; PCN; PCB; POP; formation; degradation; case study; flue gas sampling thermal treatment; fly ash; surface characterization;

    Sammanfattning : Modern societies produce large quantities of municipal solid waste (MSW), which is commonly disposed of by incineration. This has several advantages: it reduces the waste’s volume and sterilizes it while also enabling energy recovery. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Persistent environmental pollutants and risk of cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Tessa Schillemans; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent chemicals emitted in the environment can have a considerable impact on ecosystems and human health, now and in the future. One notorious group of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). LÄS MER

  5. 25. Organohalogen contaminants in wildlife from the Yangtze River Delta : Development of methods and assessments of legacy and emerging persistent organic pollutants

    Författare :Ge Yin; Åke Bergman; Gang Yu; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Rapid economic development has occurred during the past few decades in China with the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) area as one of the most progressive areas. The urbanization, industrialization, agricultural and aquaculture activities result in extensive production and application of chemicals. LÄS MER
