16. Host-Parasite Interactions in Natural Populations
Sammanfattning : Parasitism is one of the most common ways of living and it has arised in many taxa. Parasites feed and live inside or on their hosts resulting in both long and short term consequences for the host. This thesis is exploring the phenotypic and genotypic effects of animals living with parasitic infections. LÄS MER
17. Uncovering the genetics underlying host-parasite interactions during Plasmodium falciparum malaria transmission
Sammanfattning : In eukaryotes, cellular differentiation is often orchestrated by programmed arrays of activation and repression of genes underlying the specific phenotypes of cell-types. To complete its life cycle, the single-celled Apicomplexan parasite Plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly of the human malaria parasites, must repeatedly differentiate and convert into unique cell types that can exploit niches within their human and mosquito hosts. 19. Inhibitors of Human and Malaria Parasite Dihydroorotate Dehydrogenase
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the PhD work, small chemical entities (fragments) found to inhibit human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH), were chemically optimized. As part of an ample program at Active Biotech to find new drugs against autoimmune diseases, expanded fragments were repeatedly designed, synthesized and evaluated in a human DHODH assay. LÄS MER
20. Immunity to malaria: importance of exposure and parasite polymorphism
Sammanfattning : Malaria continues to carry an intolerable burden of disease and mortality, predominantly on children in Sub-Saharan Africa. An efficacious vaccine would be a powerful tool in the combat against malaria. LÄS MER
