26. Identification and Characterisation of Hydroxylated PCB and PBDE Metabolites in Blood : Congener specific synthesis and analysis
Sammanfattning : Hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyls (OH-PCBs) are known metabolites of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in many mammalian, bird and fish species. Among those, certain OH-PCB congeners are strongly localised in the blood compartment of humans and wild animals. LÄS MER
27. Biological, physico-chemical and biogeochemical dynamics of hydrophobic organ compounds
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents new findings pertaining to several processes that govern the fate and effects of hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) in the environment. Two groups of HOCs, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), have been used as model compounds. LÄS MER
28. Organohalogen contaminants in humans with emphasis on polybrominated diphenyl ethers
Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of organohalogen compounds, including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), in humans was investigated. For this purpose, the previously used method for analysis of organochlorine compounds was modified for the analysis of PBDEs and hydroxylated metabolites of polychlorinated biphenyls (OH-PCBs) in breast milk, matemal and cord blood plasma, liver and adipose tissue. 29. Assessment of environmental contaminants' neurotoxicity : in vitro and in vivo experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Accumulating evidence over several decades shows that environmental contaminants may lead to neurodevelopmental alterations. An essential prerequisite to prevention is recognition of a chemical‟s ability to harm the developing nervous system. LÄS MER
30. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations
Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. LÄS MER
