16. Cloning and structure-activity relationship studies of neuropeptide Y family receptors belonging to the Y1 subfamily
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide YY (PYY), and the pancreatic polypeptide (PP) belong to afamily of structurally related 36-amino-acid peptides. NPY acts as a neurotransmitter both inthe central and the peripheral nervous system and influences many functions includingfeeding, reproduction, and blood pressure while PYY and PP mainly act as hormones in thegut. 17. Computational prediction of ligand binding in peptide G-protein coupled receptors
Sammanfattning : G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are a superfamily of membrane receptors involved in a wide variety of biological processes, and their malfunction is associated with many diseases. Consequently, GPCRs are targeted by one-third of the drugs on the market, and constitute the focus of active public and private research in the search of more effective drugs. LÄS MER
18. Distribution and regulation of neuropeptide Y and its receptors in the human and rat brain : role in affective disorders
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is one of the most abundant peptides found within the mammalian brain. Many studies have documented that this 36-amino acid peptide exerts a wide range of central effects. LÄS MER
19. On antidepressant effects of running and SSRI : focus on hippocampus and striatal dopamine pathways
Sammanfattning : Considering the heterogeneous character of depression, it seems likely that many brain regions are involved mediating the diverse symptoms of depression. For example, the mesolimbic DA system has a central function for motivational behaviors and pleasure seeking, and it is possible that malfunctioning of brain reward systems could be an underlying mechanism of the anhedonia experienced in depressive illness. 20. The role of neuropeptides in spinal nociceptive mechanisms with special emphasis on galanin, neuropeptide Y and orphanin FQ/nociceptin
Sammanfattning : Several peptides present in sensory neurons and in the spinal cord have been recognized to have inhibitory action in nociception. In this thesis, we have used the flexor reflex preparation in rats to study the role of several proposed inhibitory neuropeptides, galanin, galanin message-associated peptide (GMAP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), orphanin FQ and nocistatin in spinal nociceptive processing under normal conditions, after inflammation or peripheral nerve injury.
