  1. 1. On spinal mechanisms for reflex control in man : modulation of Ia-afferent excitation with changes in muscle length, activation level and fatigue

    Författare :Maria M. Nordlund; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Electromyography; eccentric; concentric; presynaptic inhibition; H-reflex; central fatigue; twitch interpolation; muscle spindle; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology; Electromyography; eccentric; concentric; presynaptic inhibition; H-reflex; central fatigue; twitch interpolation; muscle spindle;

    Sammanfattning : To control muscle force, neural activation has to take alterations in muscle mechanics into account. This thesis assesses modulations in excitatory efficacy of Ia-afferents during muscle length changes at different levels of voluntary activation and during fatigue. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The effect of galanin message-associated peptide in spinal sensory processing

    Författare :Siv Andell-Jonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :galanin; galanin message-associated peptide; spinal cord; flexor reflex; nociception;

    Sammanfattning : Galanin message associated peptide (GMAP), the C-terminal flanking peptide in the precursor protein of galanin, has been studied to established whether this peptide has its own biological action. With some exceptions, GMAP is generally co-localized with galanin in the central nervous system as well as the peripheral nervous system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neuropeptides and spinal antinociception : studies on galanin, nociceptin and endomorphin

    Författare :Stefan Grass; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endomorphin; flexor reflex; galanin; knock-out mice; neuropathic pain; nociceptin; orphanin FQ transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : Nociception and/or the sensation of pain is essential for the survival of the organism. Just as important are the antinociceptive mechanisms that reduce the nociceptive input and perceived pain. Without such mechanisms, it would be impossible to turn ones focus away from even the most minor painful stimulus. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of neuropeptides in spinal nociceptive mechanisms with special emphasis on galanin, neuropeptide Y and orphanin FQ/nociceptin

    Författare :Isabella Shi Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :analgesia; antinociception; flexor reflex; galanin; galanin message-associated peptide GMAP ; neuropeptide Y NPY ; nociceptin; nociception; nocistatin; orphanin FQ; pain;

    Sammanfattning : Several peptides present in sensory neurons and in the spinal cord have been recognized to have inhibitory action in nociception. In this thesis, we have used the flexor reflex preparation in rats to study the role of several proposed inhibitory neuropeptides, galanin, galanin message-associated peptide (GMAP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), orphanin FQ and nocistatin in spinal nociceptive processing under normal conditions, after inflammation or peripheral nerve injury. 5. 5. On cholecystokinin-opioid interaction in the spinal dorsal horn following peripheral nerve injury and inflammation

    Författare :Guilherme de Araújo Lucas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholecystokinin; Cholecystokinin receptors; Morphine; Spinal cord; Axotomy; Inflammation; Peptide release; Morphine tolerance; [my]-opioid receptor; Flexor reflex; Microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : The peptide cholecystokinin (CCK) antagonizes opioid-induced analgesia. Conversely, antagonists of CCK receptors enhance the analgesic effect of opioids. Together, these results support a role for CCK as an anti-opioid peptide in pain mechanisms. LÄS MER
