11. Long Term Studies of Insect Abundances in Temporary Wetlands in Relation to Hydrology, Predation and Bti
Sammanfattning : Long-term insect abundances have been studied to investigate factors structuring the insect communities of the temporary wetlands around the River Dalälven floodplain. In the wet meadows and swamps in the River Dalälven floodplains recurrent floods are the ultimate prerequisite for high production of floodwater mosquitoes. LÄS MER
12. Botanical Repellents and Pesticides Traditionally Used Against Haematophagous Invertebrates in Lao PDR
Sammanfattning : Haematophagous parasites and disease vectors such as leeches, ticks, mites, lice, bed bugs, mosquitoes, and myiasis-causing fly larvae are common health problems in Lao Peoples Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). A main aim of my field work in Lao PDR in 2006-2010 was to document traditional knowledge among different ethnic groups about plants that people use to repel or to kill blood-feeding invertebrates. 13. Factors Influencing Evolution to Antimalarial Drug Resistance in Plasmodium falciparum in Sudan and The Gambia
Sammanfattning : Drug resistance is a major obstacle to management and control of malaria and currently progressing at a rapid rate across Africa. This thesis has examined factors influencing evolution of resistant P. falciparum at two sites in Africa, including parasite migration, cross mating and fitness cost of resistance. LÄS MER
14. Ecology and control of Anopheles mosquitoes and human malaria in Guinea Bissau, West Africa
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the relationship between risk of exposure to infective Anophelesmosquitoes and different environmental factors, in particular house construction, presence ofdomestic animals and house location, in coastal Guinea Bissau, West Africa. The potentialeffect of permethrin-impregnated bed nets on mosquito abundance in bed rooms, and on thePlasmodium parasite prevalence in children was also analysed. LÄS MER
