  1. 16. Neuropeptides Related to Tachykinins and Leucokinins in the Developing Nervous System of Insects

    Författare :Kim Min Yung; Karoly Elekes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoologi; Zoology;

    Sammanfattning : In insects more than 300 neuropeptides have been identified and these have been implicated in a vast range of functional roles. These peptides have been grouped into families based on amino acid sequence similarities. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Uncovering the genetics underlying host-parasite interactions during Plasmodium falciparum malaria transmission

    Författare :Mubasher Mohammed; Johan Ankarklev; David Serre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; Genomics; single-cell RNA-seq; Parasite cell fate; Anopheles gambiae; ApiAP2 transcription factors; driver genes; computational biology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : In eukaryotes, cellular differentiation is often orchestrated by programmed arrays of activation and repression of genes underlying the specific phenotypes of cell-types. To complete its life cycle, the single-celled Apicomplexan parasite Plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly of the human malaria parasites, must repeatedly differentiate and convert into unique cell types that can exploit niches within their human and mosquito hosts. 3. 18. Identification of bacteria associated with malaria mosquitoes - Their characterisation and potential use

    Författare :Jenny Lindh; Ingrid Faye; Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; mosquito; Anopheles; bacteria; paratransgenics; semiochemicals; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The use of transformed bacteria to stop or kill disease-causing agents in the gut of vector insects is called paratransgenics. Two of the major steps in creating a paratransgenic Anopheles mosquito, unable to spread the Plasmodium parasites that cause malaria, are to find a bacterium suitable for the purpose and a way to introduce the transformed bacterium into mosquitoes in the field. 4. 19. A molecular characterization of selected cecropins and cysteine proteinases in Drosophila

    Författare :Ylva Tryselius; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insects that have been infected with bacteria produce antibacterial peptides. Among the most potent antibacterial peptides in Drosophila are the cecropins. This work describes the cloning and expression studies of the CecC gene, which completes the picture of the cecropin locus in Drosophila melanogaster. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Hemolin expression during Cecropia development and its effect on malaria parasites

    Författare :Yohannes Assefaw-Redda; Ingrid Faya; Lage Cerenius; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Hemolin is a lepidopteran member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, initially isolated from the giant silkmoth Hyalophora cecropia. Hemolin is also induced by stimulation with microbial cell wall components and was recently shown to be strongly upregulated by baculovirus and double stranded RNA. LÄS MER
