  1. 6. Chemical Speciation of Sulfur and Metals in Biogas Reactors : Implications for Cobalt and Nickel Bio-uptake Processes

    Författare :Sepehr Shakeri Yekta; Bo Svensson; Ulf Skyllberg; Åsa Danielsson; Charles Banks; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biogas; Anaerobic digestion; Chemical speciation; bio-uptake; Sulfur; Iron; Cobalt; Nickel; Biogas; Anaerob nedbrytning; Kemisk speciering; Bio-upptag; Svavel; Järn; Kobolt; Nickel;

    Sammanfattning : A balanced supply of micronutrients, including metals such as iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni), is required for the efficient and stable production of biogas. During biogas formation, the uptake of micronutrient metals by microorganisms is controlled by a complex network of biological and chemical reactions, in which reduced sulfur (S) compounds play a central role. 2. 7. Investigations on the Formation of Defect Bands in Semi-Solid High Pressure Die Cast Aluminium-Silicon Alloys

    Författare :Madeleine Law; Pär Jönsson; Christopher Hulme-Smith; Taishi Matsushita; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Semi-Solid Metals; SSM; Al-Si Alloys; Defect bands; HPDC; Semisolida metaller; SSM; Al-Si-Alloys; defektband; HPDC; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : High-pressure die casting of semi-solid aluminium-silicon alloys is used in the automotive industry to manufacture components, like housings, brackets, and bars. It is commonly known that during high-pressure die casting, defect bands may be created that follow the contour of the component surface. These bands consist mainly of a eutectic phase. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Sustainable Recycling of Spent Lithium-ion Batteries : An In-situ Approach for Recovery and Alloying of Valuable Metals

    Författare :Safoura Babanejad; Hesham Ahmed; Charlotte Andersson; Ari Jokilaakso; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Li-ion battery; black mass; Recycling; Pyrometallurgy; modeling; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Sammanfattning : A large number of Li-ion batteries used today will reach their End-Of-Life (EOL) in a few years. After their EOL, the recovery of their precious elements is required. By applying physical separation, a fraction with fine particle size is left behind which is known as Black Mass (BM). LÄS MER

  4. 9. Reprocessing historical tailings for possible remediation and recovery of critical metals and minerals : The Yxsjöberg case

    Författare :Jane Mwaba Mulenshi; Jan Rosenkranz; Saeed Chehreh Chelgani; Urs Peuker; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining waste; Historical tailings; Conceptual framework; Critical raw materials; Tungsten; Scheelite; Characterization; Mineral liberation analysis; Beneficiation; Reprocessing; Mineral Processing; Mineralteknik; Centrumbildning - Centrum för avancerad gruvteknik och metallurgi CAMM ; Centre - Centre for Advanced Mining Metallurgy CAMM ;

    Sammanfattning : With increasing consumption of primary mineral resources, the generation of mining wastes has also increased thus requiring the mining industry to address the growing environmental concerns. Waste rock and tailings are potential secondary sources of critical raw materials currently in short supply in the European Union, but also a source for environmental issues like acid mine drainage. 5. 10. Bioaccessibility, corrosion and surface properties of metals, alloys and metallic powder in biological fluids of relevance for occupational and consumer health hazard assessment

    Författare :Xuying Wang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Yolanda S. Hedberg; Lars Nyborg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal and alloy; metal release; synthetic biological fluids; surface oxide; corrosion resistance; hazard assessment; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : When assessing hazards of metals, alloys, and metal-containing items, the metal release (bioaccessibility) is of high importance. Triggered by increasingly stricter hazard classifications for metals, especially cobalt (Co), and limited knowledge, the aim of this doctoral thesis is to assess correlations between the metal/alloy surface characteristics, corrosion and metal release pattern in different simulated biological fluids relevant to human exposure scenarios (dermal, ingestion and inhalation, Papers I-V).
