2. Postmenopausal hormone therapy and cardiovascular risk
Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims: Postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) is the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, but its safety has been debated during the past 15 years. Previous observational studies showed benefits from HT, whereas subsequent large randomized clinical trials showed an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other chronic diseases; the pivotal difference between these studies was the average age at HT initiation. 3. Women's knowledge, attitudes, and management of the menopausal transition
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Hormone therapy (HT) has been considered as a safe treatment for menopausal symptoms. Use of HT increased dramatically in the 1980s and 1990s. Results from large randomized clinical trials (RCT) could, around the turn of the century, however not find evidence for long-term benefits with HT. LÄS MER

5. Breast cancer epidemiology : influence of hormone-related factors
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to explore how hormone-related factors, including use of hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptives, body size in different periods of life and reproductive factors, influence the risk of breast cancer. Other aims were to assess how family history of breast cancer modifies the associations between such factors and risk of the disease and how hormone replacement therapy affects tumour characteristics.
