  1. 1. Functional studies of Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) in hematopoiesis and leukemia

    Författare :Helena Svedberg; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; K562; U937; CD34 ; leukemia; WT1; hematopoiesis; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) is a zinc-finger transcription factor that is involved in the development of urogenital organs and mesothelial tissues. It was initially identified as a tumor suppressor gene, based on the observation that somatic inactivation of the gene predispose for development of the pediatric kidney cancer Wilms’ tumor. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immune modulation by mesenchymal stem cells

    Författare :Ida Rasmusson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mesenchymal stem cells; T cells; cytotoxic T lymphocytes; cytokines; mixed lymphocyte culture; B cells; antibody production; stem cell transplantation; acute graft versus host disease;

    Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were discovered as adherent cells in the bone marrow stroma that could form bone and stimulate hematopoiesis. Later, MSCs were shown to be hypoimmunogenic and to suppress proliferation of activated T cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. How can p53 induce differentiation of leukemic cells?

    Författare :Kristina Drott; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; p53-differentiation-p21-WT1-leukemia; Hematologi; Haematology; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The terminal differentiation of leukemic cells is closely connected to their death. The concept of differentiation therapy originates from the idea that forced maturation of leukemic cells could induce cell death without the side-effects that are provoked by ordinary chemotherapy. 4. 4. Topoisomerase II and drug resistance in leukemic cells

    Författare :Rong Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanisms for resistance to chemotherapy include among other, elevated p-glycoprotein (p-gp) level and/or altered topoisomerase II level (topo II). The present study focused on topo 11 expression, and the enzyme related in vitro drug sensitivities in human myeloid leukemic K562 cell line and isolated peripheral mononuclear cells from patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). 5. 5. Characterization and Separation of Suspension Cells by Isoacoustic Focusing

    Författare :Mahdi Rezayati Charan; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Enabling techniques for separating target cells, such as subgroups of white blood cells and cancercells from blood and other body fluids, are necessary for lab work facilitation, inline integration withhigh-end bioanalytical instrumentation, and for point-of-care or home testing. The work of this thesisaddresses this need by further studying an equilibrium-based ultrasonic wave-based technology calledisoacoustic focusing to characterize and gain access to cells. LÄS MER
