  1. 11. Genetic variation and population differentiation in the forest herb Lathyrus vernus (Fabaceae)

    Författare :Katarina Schiemann; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; taxonomy; morphology; phytogeography; inbreeding depression; Systematic botany; small population size; marginality; reproductive characters; leaflet shape; allozymes; Lathyrus vernus; genetic variation;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, I investigated patterns of genetic variation in the forest herb Lathyrus vernus (Fabaceae), using plant material from different-sized populations representing three geographically separated regions: central Europe, southern and central Sweden. My studies included presumably neutral or weakly selected characters (allozymes and leaflet shape) as well as characters that should be under strong directional selection (e. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Conservation biology and genetic structure of fringe populations of the scarce heath butterfly in Sweden

    Författare :Anna Cassel; Volker Loeschcke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; fragmentation; genetic structure; mobility; inbreeding; habitat requirements; Lepidoptera; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Conservation Biology; naturvårdsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the past century, about 82% of meadows and pastures have been lost in Sweden, with negative consequences for their flora and fauna. An example is the scarce heath butterfly, which is one of the red-listed species threatened by such habitat loss through afforestation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Genetic variation, polyploidy and hybridization in Scandinavian Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago (Anthericaceae)

    Författare :Gabrielle Rosquist; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic botany; inbreeding depression; gene flow; introgression; hybridization; morphology; isozyme; allozyme; allele frequencies; population fragmentation; genetic diversity; geographic variation; Anthericum; Allopolyploidy; taxonomy; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I investigate the differences in breeding system, levels of genetic variation and hierarchical structure of genetic diversity between Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago. The two species differ in ploidy level and flowering time, but have similar habitat preferences, reproductive biology and geographic distributions in Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Population size, viability and genetic diversity in the orchid Gymnadenia conopsea

    Författare :Linus Söderquist; Nina Sletvold; Sophie Karrenberg; Hans Jacquemyn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; demography; extinction probability; genetic diversity; genetic rescue; genetic structure; Gymnadenia conopsea; orchid conservation; population viability; population size; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined controlled crosses with genetic and demographic data to examine how a main conservation value indicator, population size, was associated with estimates of population viability. I focused on the still common, but decreasing, perennial orchid Gymnadenia conopsea at two spatial scales—locally on the island Öland, in SE Sweden, and regionally across Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Advancing red clover breeding through genomic selection methods

    Författare :Johanna Osterman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Red clover is a major forage legume and a highly valuable crop for Northern Europe due to its high protein value and multiple ecological services. It is an important crop for both the ruminant industry and ecological farming. As growing conditions change due to rapid climate change, the demand for red clover breeding has increased. LÄS MER
