11. Genetic variation and population differentiation in the forest herb Lathyrus vernus (Fabaceae)
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, I investigated patterns of genetic variation in the forest herb Lathyrus vernus (Fabaceae), using plant material from different-sized populations representing three geographically separated regions: central Europe, southern and central Sweden. My studies included presumably neutral or weakly selected characters (allozymes and leaflet shape) as well as characters that should be under strong directional selection (e. LÄS MER
12. Conservation biology and genetic structure of fringe populations of the scarce heath butterfly in Sweden
Sammanfattning : During the past century, about 82% of meadows and pastures have been lost in Sweden, with negative consequences for their flora and fauna. An example is the scarce heath butterfly, which is one of the red-listed species threatened by such habitat loss through afforestation. LÄS MER
13. Genetic variation, polyploidy and hybridization in Scandinavian Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago (Anthericaceae)
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I investigate the differences in breeding system, levels of genetic variation and hierarchical structure of genetic diversity between Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago. The two species differ in ploidy level and flowering time, but have similar habitat preferences, reproductive biology and geographic distributions in Scandinavia. LÄS MER
14. Population size, viability and genetic diversity in the orchid Gymnadenia conopsea
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined controlled crosses with genetic and demographic data to examine how a main conservation value indicator, population size, was associated with estimates of population viability. I focused on the still common, but decreasing, perennial orchid Gymnadenia conopsea at two spatial scales—locally on the island Öland, in SE Sweden, and regionally across Scandinavia. LÄS MER
15. Advancing red clover breeding through genomic selection methods
Sammanfattning : Red clover is a major forage legume and a highly valuable crop for Northern Europe due to its high protein value and multiple ecological services. It is an important crop for both the ruminant industry and ecological farming. As growing conditions change due to rapid climate change, the demand for red clover breeding has increased. LÄS MER
