  1. 1. Regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and implications in catabolic conditions

    Författare :Björn Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the regulation of IGFBP-1 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1), which is one factor regulating the bioavailability of IGF-I with special interest how IGFBP-1 is regulated in vitro and in humans, especially in diabetes and catabolic conditions. The IGFBP-1 cDNA was cloned and used for studies in human hepatoma cells, HepG2, which showed that both insulin and IGF-I could decrease IGFBP-1 in the cell conditioned medium. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Novel insulin-like growth factor-binding protein proteases : detection and characterization

    Författare :Jing Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IGFs; IGFBP-1. IGFBP-3; azurocidin HBP CAP37; IGFBP protease; gender;

    Sammanfattning : Members of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system are known to have an impact on cell differentiation, proliferation and survival, and to be important regulators for nutrient metabolism. The IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1 to -6) control the availability of IGFs (IGF-I and IGF-II) to their receptors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Diabetes and puberty : studies on hormonal factors of importance to the blood glucose control

    Författare :Ingmar Zachrisson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 1 diabetes; Puberty; Adolescence; Metabolic Control; IGF-I; IGFBP-1; IGFBP-3; Proteases; Leptin;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that, in children with type 1 diabetes, metabolic control often deteriorates during puberty. Better understanding of the mechanisms that cause deterioration of blood glucose control can lead to improved therapeutic approaches. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The IGF-IGFBP system in aerobic exercise : with focus on skeletal muscle

    Författare :Ulrika Berg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IGF-I; IGFBP-1; microdialysis; exercise; IL-6; calpain;

    Sammanfattning : Activity induced skeletal muscle adaptation has been suggested to be mediated largely by intrinsic factors, such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I. IGF-I stimulates muscle glucose and amino acid uptake and promotes anabolism. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The insulin-like growth factor system : effects of circulating proteases

    Författare :Sara Gustafsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin-like growth factor-I and -II (IGF-I/-II) are peptide hormones important for growth and metabolism. They stimulate cell proliferation and differentiation and inhibit apoptosis. In addition, they have insulin-like effects on glucose and amino acid metabolism. LÄS MER
