  1. 21. Intensivvårdsrummets betydelse för vårdande och välbefinnande : patienters närståendes och vårdpersonalens erfarenheter

    Författare :Sepideh Olausson; Margaretha Ekebergh; Berit Lindahl; Sofia Almerud Österberg; Febe Friberg; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care; patient rooms; lived experiences; patients; staff; next of kin; phenomenology; hermeneutics; photovoice; caring; Vårdvetenskap; Omvårdnad;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of the thesis was to illuminate the meanings of intensive care units’ patient rooms as a place of care for critically ill patients and their loved ones. Moreover, it was aimed to develop photovoice as a data collection method for research in ICU context. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Strain echocardiography in the critically ill patient : Studies in patients with septic shock and subarachnoid haemorrhage

    Författare :Keti Dalla; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Strain echocardiography in ICU patients; Left ventricle; Right ventricle; Septic shock; Subarachnoid haemorrhage; Norepinephrine;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, strain echocardiography by two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (2D-STI), was used for the evaluation of left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function in critically ill patients with septic shock and subarachnoid haemorrhage. The aims were to: 1) investigate the value of strain echocardiography for the early detection of LV and RV dysfunction not diagnosed with conventional echocardiography in severe sepsis and septic shock, 2) to study the effects of norepinephrine on RV systolic function and pulmonary haemodynamics in patients with norepinephrine-dependent septic shock 3) evaluate the use of strain echocardiography for detection of myocardial injury in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and 4) study the impact of general anaesthesia and positive pressure ventilation (PPV) on RV and LV myocardial longitudinal strain. 3. 23. Physical and psychological problems after critical illness : prediction, detection and treatment

    Författare :Anna Schandl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Intensive Care Unit;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of physical and psychological problems after critical illness is high. To improve long-term outcome in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) survivors, follow-up programmes are under development. However, the optimal organization, duration and content of ICU follow-up has not yet been established and the efficacy of ICU follow- up is uncertain. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Skin conductance variability and stressful exposures in critical care

    Författare :Anders Günther; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Numerous stressors affect the intensive care unit (ICU) patient. The ICU environment is busy and noisy, with monitoring and treatment around the clock. ICU patients may have problems in getting some sleep, due to lighting and noise. Many ICU survivors report having pain during their ICU stay. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Sex and gender aspects on intensive care : access, intensity and outcome

    Författare :Erik Zettersten; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : There is an underlying assumption in society that critically ill patients are admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) based on their illness severity coupled with their comorbidities, and that other variables are irrelevant. It is therefore troublesome to not fully understand the sexdiscrepancy in the ICU-population; the gender distribution in intensive care units is consistently found to be around 60% men and 40% women.
