    Sammanfattning : This study is concerned with the people who settled permanently near the sawmills of Västernorrland during the expansion of the sawmill industry in the latter half of the 19th century. The basis of, and a prerequisite for this resettlement and the life thus built up was the permanent employment and wages earned by the men at the sawmills. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on the demise of industry that has led to a search for new solutions for the survival of smaller communities traditionally dependent on industrial production. In two local industrial communities in central and northern Sweden, Surahammar and Timrå, industrial dependency has gradually been replaced by a dependency on immigration, largely from the neighboring cities of Västerås and Sundsvall.
