17. Diagnostic and prognostic markers in sepsis
Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a life-threatening disease affecting millions of people globally. The more severe forms are considered to be a consequence of an unbalanced systemic inflammatory response to infection, causing organ dysfunction, vascular leakage and hypotension. An early diagnosis followed by appropriate antimicrobial therapy is critical for the outcome. LÄS MER
18. Immune responses induced by immunization with HIV-1 DNA followed by HIV-modified vaccinia virus Ankara with or without recombinant GP140 in healthy Tanzanian individuals
Sammanfattning : A vaccine against HIV is widely considered the most effective and sustainable way of preventing new infections. We previously conducted a phase I/II clinical trial using multi-clade, multigene HIV-DNA priming and boosting with the recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara (HIV-MVA) virus among healthy Tanzanian volunteers (HIVIS03 trial). 19. Immunotherapy against malignant brain tumors - of mice and men
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most abundant and most aggressive primary brain tumor in adults. Due to the infiltrative growth of the tumor, surgery will never be radical. Radiation and chemotherapy only marginally improve the poor prognosis due to the ability of the GBM to develop resistance towards these treatments. LÄS MER
20. Structures of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers and Preasorbed Mucin : The Influence of Counterions
Sammanfattning : The focus in this thesis has been to gain a fundamental understanding of how different type of salts affect preadsorbed polyelectrolytes, both natural and synthetic. The knowledge from the fundamental work is then applied on a commercial system to investigate if the efficiency can be enhanced. LÄS MER
