  1. 21. Immune monitoring in humans after manipulation by B cell depletion and immunization

    Författare :Therese Vallerskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis was to study the influence of immunomodulatory drugs on the human immune system. The approach was bi-directional; ex vivo studies were performed after B cell depletion with rituximab treatment in patients with SLE and RA, and an in vivo assay was established to study effects of drugs on immune responsiveness. 2. 22. Platelet-activating factor and lysophospatidylcholine in oxidized low density lipoprotein-mediated immune activation

    Författare :Yihui Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; oxidized LDL; platelet-activating factor PAF ; Iysophosphatidylcholine LPC ; anti-MHC class II antibodies; antibody; T cells; cytokine; IFN-[gamma]; IL-6; IL-4; TNF-[alpha]; a PAF specific receptor antagonist-WEB2170;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is a risk factor for development of cardiovascular disease, as in addition to known risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking and diabetes. Patients with inflammatory diseases including SLE have an enhanced risk of cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER

  3. 23. HMGB1 in inflammation : secretion and function

    Författare :Heidi Wähämaa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterised by progressive joint destruction. The inflammatory and joint destructive processes in RA are mediated by resident synovial cells and cells recruited from the blood stream and bone marrow. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Immune regulation in multiple sclerosis : cytokines and metalloproteinases

    Författare :Volkan Özenci; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Immunological mechanisms play a central role in the pathogenesis sclerosis (MS). In this study two groups of related immune variables are cytokines and metalloproteinases (MMPs), which regulate each other's production and activation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Exosomes : nano-vesicles in immune regulation

    Författare :Sara M Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nano-vesicles (30-100 nm) with an endosome-derived limiting membrane are called exosomes. These are released from the cell when the endosome fuses with the outer cell membrane. Exosomes from antigen presenting cells (APC) carry MHC class I and class II as well as integrins, tetraspanins and co-stimulatory molecules. LÄS MER
