16. Multivariate Data Analytics to Identify Driver’s Sleepiness, Cognitive load, and Stress
Sammanfattning : Driving a vehicle in a dynamic traffic environment requires continuous adaptation of a complex manifold of physiological and cognitive activities. Impaired driving due to, for example, sleepiness, inattention, cognitive load or stress, affects one’s ability to adapt, predict and react to upcoming traffic events. LÄS MER
17. Surgical and neurological adverse effects of epilepsy surgery
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study surgical and neurological complications of preoperative invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery procedures (Papers I-II) and seizure worsening after epilepsy surgery (Paper III). A further aim was to improve reporting of adverse effects related to invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery by proposing and evaluating an evidence-based protocol for monitoring complications (Paper IV). 18. Multimodal phenotyping of synaptic damage in Alzheimer’s disease : translational perspective with focus on quantitative EEG
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common form of dementia. Accumulation of AD-associated pathology in the brain may begin a decade or more before the appearance of the first symptoms of the disease. LÄS MER
19. Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease : focus on quantitative EEG in relation to genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers
Sammanfattning : The main aims of this thesis were to explore whether quantitative EEG (qEEG) variables could be considered as positive markers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and sensitive indices of disease progression and treatment effects, as well as to determine their relation to currently existing genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers. The main findings of seven subsequent studies are summarized as follows: 1) Combined alpha and theta relative power and temporo-parietal alpha band coherence were the best combination of qEEG variables for the discrimination of mild to moderate AD patients and healthy controls, giving 89% overall correct classification accuracy. 20. Influence of depth of anesthesia on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : Patients may suffer from various forms of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). In most cases, the impact on cognitive function is relatively transient but POCD can sometimes be long-lasting (> 1 year). Studies showing that up to one in four patients with known risk factors are affected by some form of cognitive loss. LÄS MER
