  1. 1. Source localisation of epileptiform activity in epilepsy of temporal lobe origin

    Författare :Göran Lantz; Klinisk neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; frequency analysis; ictal; singe photon emission computed tomography; volume conduction; extracranial; intracranial; LORETA; dipole; source localisation; epilepsy; mesolimbic; Fast Fourier Transform; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with drug resistant partial epilepsy, who are under consideration for epilepsy surgery, interictal and ictal EEG recorded with extracranial electrodes plays an important role in the localisation of the seizure onset area. During the past years, methods have been developed, which can be used to estimate the location of the source of epileptiform activity in the brain from extracranial EEG data. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Surgical and neurological adverse effects of epilepsy surgery

    Författare :Johan Bjellvi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epilepsy surgery; invasive electrode procedures; intracranial EEG; complications; adverse events; risk; seizure worsening; multicenter study; register study; SNESUR;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study surgical and neurological complications of preoperative invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery procedures (Papers I-II) and seizure worsening after epilepsy surgery (Paper III). A further aim was to improve reporting of adverse effects related to invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery by proposing and evaluating an evidence-based protocol for monitoring complications (Paper IV). 3. 3. Pediatric caudal anesthesia with reference to spread and intracranial effects

    Författare :Paul Castillo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Caudal anesthesia is, since 1933, the most common regional anesthetic technique used in children and has hitherto been described as a safe and straightforward method. Recent research has shown that a high-dose (1. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Site of the Lesion in Konzo : Clinical and Neurophysiological Studies on a Non-Progressive Upper Motor Neuron Disorder

    Författare :Desire Tshala-Katumbay; Andrew Eisen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Konzo; upper motor neuron diseases; WHO criteria; electroencephalography; evoked potentials; brain involvement; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Konzo is a permanent spastic para/tetraparesis occurring in undernourished populations in Africa relying on insufficiently processed bitter cassava, which contains cyanogenic compounds, as staple food. Its pathogenetic mechanism is unknown. Our studies aimed at clarifying the lesion in konzo. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On severe traumatic brain injury : aspects of an intra cranial pressure-targeted therapy based on the Lund concept

    Författare :Magnus Olivecrona; Lars-Owe D Koskinen; Bertil Romner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; severe traumatic brain injury; ICP targeted therapy; ICP; hemicraniectomy; seizures; prostacyclin; microdialysis; outcome; S100B; NSE; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (sTBI) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity. At the Department of Neurosurgery Umeå University Hospital subjects with sTBI are treated with an intracranial pressure (ICP) guided therapy based on physiological principles, aiming to optimise the microcirculation of the brain so avoiding secondary brain injuries.
